Does IPL treatment hurt?

Skin type is a fundamental effecting factor in this treatment as due to the high level of pigment in the skin. Tolerance of pain is very individual from person to person. Most people liken the experience to a rubber band snapping on the skin at worst, but in general most of our clients describe it as a slightly warming sensation that is not at all unpleasant. The main difference with Hannah's IPL & Laser Clinic is down to the latest equipment that we use from All White Laser with its unique Ice cooling System.

The AW3 Ice Cooling system greatly aids patient comfort and safety by applying ice cooling to the skin before the treatment starts, numbing the immediate area that is worked on and reducing any pain or discomfort by up to 70%. We are totally confident, based on our experience, that IPL treatment will be relatively pain free for most of our patients.

How many treatments do I need?

This question largely depends on the type of treatment that you would like as they all vary. For most treatments such as skin rejuvenation and wrinkle treatment, you will need a minimum of three treatments spaced equally apart but you will start to notice instant results after your first treatment. This is why a consultation is important before you decide on a treatment plan, we can assess your skin type, age and condition that you would like treated to give you a comprehensive plan moving forwards.

How long does it take?

Duration-wise, sessions of IPL generally depend on how much attention your problem area needs, as well as how much ground there is to cover. On average, though, IPL sessions tend to last between 30-60 minutes. We use a larger applicator which significantly reduces time.

Can anyone be treated?

As a general rule we can treat anyone male or female, over the age of 18. If you have a recent sun tan or are using fake tan, we will be unable to carry out treatments until the tan has completely faded. There are also certain procedures that are more effective on darker skin tones.

Are your treatments permanent?

IPL is both a permanent and semi-permanent treatment. For treatments such as pigmentations, wrinkles, thread veins and birthmarks, the treatment is permanent and will give 100% removal in most cases. For treatments such as hair removal and skin rejuventation, it is a long term process that will significantly stop hair growth but like skin rejuvenation it may require top up treatments in the future to ensure consistent results.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects with IPL treatment are rare but in some cases you may experience mild skin redness, tenderness and swelling 48 hours to one week post-treatment. With treatments such as pigmentation removal or freckle removal, you will experience small amounts of inital scabbing but these will naturally flake off in a few days.

Pre and Post Treatment advice

Following your consultation, we will require you to come shaved and dressed in loose clothing. Clients should not be under the influence of any alcohol or drugs before having a treatment session. Following your treatment you can use a cold compress, aloe vera gel or a 1% hydrocortisone if needed to reduce any inflammation.

You will be supplied with a full leaflet explaining pre and post treatment prior to starting.

Do I have to get a consultation first?

keyboard_arrow_down

Yes this is a legal requirement and for your own personal safety to ensure you are suitable for treatment, and to allow us to determine the best and most appropriate treatment programme to help you. You must be aged 18 or over, we cannot treat anyone who is pregnant or suffering from certain medical conditions such as epilepsy or heart conditions. Once your consultation is complete, and if you wish to proceed, you must take a skin patch test and wait at least 24 hours for us to see the results of this. We do not charge for our consultations or patch tests.
